The stars danced above,
falling gently into the earth’s sweet soil
A smile curved on my lips
as I admired the design of the Divine
Perhaps they weren’t stars
but pinholes,
poked out by angels
curious about the lives
of mortals like you and me,
watching through the veil of the night
to understand our pain
my pain
I raced toward the cloudy lake,
diving into the frigid waters
a desperate baptism,
a hiding place
from the confusion tightening around my throat
gasping for air
I broke the surface
and the moonlight
saved me
from the ache of existence
once more
